ASUN Announces Second Recipient of Williams/Blackburn Scholarship

Arkansas State University – Newport has announced student Hannah Roberts as the second recipient of the college’s Williams/Blackburn Scholarship, a $500 award given during the spring semester recognizing ASUN students who participate in the Federal Work Study program.

“I think that this award is wonderful,” said Roberts. “I am truly grateful for this scholarship because it showcases that ASUN values their student workers - even though I could see it through the actions of the staff - and can help me with future educational expenses.

Selected by the scholarship committee, Roberts was chosen for her commitment to both education and service.

“Hannah was selected for the scholarship based on her service to ASU-Newport through her time working on campus as a federal work study student,” said Buchman. “Her commitment to her education is evident through her spectacular grades in her courses.”

Roberts will complete her associate degree in business this spring. She then plans on transferring to Arkansas State University where she will pursue a bachelor's degree in management and business administration.

ASUN’s Williams/Blackburn Scholarship is funded by Dr. Larry Williams and Dr. Amy Blackburn. Williams, the chancellor emeritus of the university, served in the chancellor position until his retirement in 2013. Throughout his tenure, enrollment quadrupled, school facilities improved, Marked Tree and Jonesboro campuses were added, and 54 acres were acquired to accommodate school expansion. Williams and Blackburn’s contributions to the school continue to leave a lasting legacy through this scholarship.
