In June 2016, Ashley Buchman was named as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Dr. Buchman assumed the Vice Chancellor role after serving in various capacities at ASU-Newport since 2008. Recently, Dr. Buchman was Campus Dean and Dean of Retention & Student Success.
Buchman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, with an emphasis in Management from Arkansas State University in 2006. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Arkansas State University in 2007 before earning her Specialist in Community College Teaching, with an emphasis in Administration, also from A-State, in 2010. Buchman earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in 2012 from Arkansas State University.
Buchman’s career at ASU-Newport began in 2008 as the college’s Workforce Development Counselor. Later that year, she became the Director of Community Outreach for the Career Pathways Initiative, and was promoted to Director of Student Services in 2009. In 2014, Buchman assumed the role of ASUN Dean of Retention and Student Success, where she oversaw the design, development and implementation of the Center for Academic Retention and Success. Among other notable achievements, Buchman also implemented ASUN’s Early Alert System to improve student retention success and assisted in the design, coordination and implementation of ASUN’s New Student Orientation sessions for new students. Further, she co-authored the college’s 2015-2020 Minority and Retention Report. Adding the role of Campus Dean in 2015, Buchman served as the liaison between ASUN’s Jonesboro and Marked Tree campuses and the ASUN Newport campus. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct faculty member at Arkansas State University since 2010.
Buchman also holds certifications as a Title IX Investigator from the Association of Title IX Investigators and in Multi-Hazard Emergency Management for Higher Education. She is also the recipient of many awards, has been invited to present at numerous seminars and conferences and is a member of numerous professional associations and affiliations.
As Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Buchman will provide strategic direction and work collaboratively to support service missions such as student activities, counseling, financial aid, disability services, recruitment, retention, enrollment management, orientation and student development. She will also plan, develop, manage and administer programs and strategies for enrollment management and student affairs that support the college’s strategic plan and mission. Buchman will work with college leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to recruit, retain and serve ASUN’s vibrant and diverse student body.
