In January 2014, Jeff Bookout was named Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives for ASU-Newport. Jeff began his career in higher education at Ozark Technical College in 1993 where he served as the Financial Aid Officer for five years. During this time, he developed an appreciation for student learning and assisting them to achieve their ultimate goals and expectations.
In 1998, Bookout accepted a position with ASU-Beebe/Newport as the Director of Business and Industry Outreach. His duties were varied and included coordination and customization of industry training with businesses and industries in the ASU-Beebe/Newport service areas. In 2000, Jeff transitioned into the academic community by his involvement in the creation and implementation of the Cisco Networking Academy. The program was one of the first initiatives to carry curriculum to students utilizing a hybrid format with online content supported by on-site instruction.
ASU-Newport assumed oversight of the ASU Technical Centers at Marked Tree and Jonesboro in January 2008. This marked Jeff’s promotion to the Director of Instructional Programs. The following year, Jeff was promoted to Vice Chancellor of the ASUN Technical Center at Marked Tree. During his tenure at this post, the campus experienced a number of physical renovations to modernize the campus as well as significant curricular changes to implement more collegiate instructional models.
A recently retired officer in the Arkansas National Guard, serving for over twenty-one years, Jeff is a member of the Marked Tree Rotary Club and has completed the Dale Carnegie Management Course, AATYC Leadership Institute, LEAN University training, Oz Principle Management Accountability certification and Total Army Instructional Training Course. He is a graduate of Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and a Master of Science in Vocational-Technical College Administration.
