ASU-Newport names new Dean of Nursing & Health Professions

Arkansas State University-Newport is excited to share Dr. Typhanie Myers is the new Dean of Nursing and Health Professions. Dr. Myers has been with ASU-Newport since 2016 serving as Coordinator for Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Outreach, Director of Academic Outreach and Associate Dean for Applied Sciences.

Dr. Myers started her educational journey at a community college. She earned an Associate of Arts in General Education at Ozarka College. She went on to graduate Cum Laude from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mid-level Education and earned a Master of Science in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. Dr. Myers recently completed her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Leadership at Grand Canyon University. 

Nursing and Health Professions encompasses some of ASU-Newport's most competitive programs including Practical Nursing, Registered Nursing and Surgical Technology. Other programs include Emergency Medicine, Patient Care Technician and Pre-Health Professions. 

Dr. Holly Smith, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, said Dr. Myers has a vast skill set that will allow her to excel. 

"Dr. Myers’ background and experience in program development, assessment, and building strong industry partnerships make her an excellent fit for this position," Dr. Smith said. "These qualifications were essential as we selected our new dean. She has a vision to expand ASUN’s role as a major academic and workforce resource for the state in both K-12 and higher education partnerships and industry-driven education and training. Typhanie has proven herself as a strong and dedicated leader at ASUN, and I fully believe she has the vision and determination to lead the division."

Dr. Myers lives in Cave City. She is the mother of two daughters. One is a student at Arkansas State University, and one is a student at Cave City High School.
