ASU-Newport faculty, staff, alumni and student all-star honored at ACC 2019 Conference

Arkansas State University-Newport is honored to be represented by such distinguished alumni, faculty, staff and students. At the 2019 Arkansas Community Colleges Fall Conference, four individuals were honored for their success and dedication to ASU-Newport.

Outstanding Alumni: Brent Lassiter

Brent Lassiter graduated from ASU-Newport in 1998 with an Associate of Arts degree. After completing his bachelor's degree at Arkansas State University, Brent returned to Jackson County where he is a    proud business owner, loyal member of the community and dedicated family man. Brent owns ProAg Services - an agricultural consulting service - and operates a family farm. Brent also serves on ASUN's Board of Visitors and is constantly looking for ways to help the institution achieve its mission. Brent is a valued member of the Jackson County community as well as an outstanding ASUN alum.

Academic All-Star: Kayla Slinkard

Kayla Slinkard is a wonderful addition to the ASU-Newport family as both a student and an employee. Kayla’s teachers have been impressed by her character, her love of learning and her passion for continuing her education. Not only does Kayla bring a positive spirit to the classroom but also shows her school spirit by participating in events outside the classroom. Kayla works part-time at ASUN-Jonesboro, and her coworkers compliment her professional attitude, organization and enthusiasm. All of her teachers and coworkers agree that Kayla is a joy to have on campus.

Outstanding Faculty: Lori Hutton

Lori Hutton is completely committed to the success of her students. She goes out of her way to ensure students have everything they need to thrive in school. Lori has gone so far as to write and publish her own textbook to aid students in the learning process. Lori’s book presents the subject matter in a language that students can easily understand. Her commitment to students and the institution does not end in the classroom. She regularly participates in events on campus and in the community. ASU-Newport is proud to have Lori as a member of its faculty.

Outstanding Staff: Vicki Frans

 Vicki Frans' warm smile and positive attitude serve as the face of the ASU-Newport's Applied Science Division. She is, in every way, an outstanding employee whose commitment to her team and student success is evident every day. Vicki is an excellent organizer and communicator – always jumping in to help, participating in problem-solving and keeping her team on track. Vicki holds herself accountable, is dependable and works with dignity and integrity. She also regularly plays an active role in community events.
