History of the Chancellor

Dr. Sandra MasseyDr. Johnny Moore    2021 - Present

Dr. Moore became the first African American Chancellor in the ASU System in February 2021. Dr. Johnny Moore is the third Chancellor for Arkansas State University-Newport. Moore returns home to Arkansas after spending the last four years as president of Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia. and began his duties effective February 8, 2021. A native of Old Washington, Arkansas, he was president and CEO of Philander Smith College in Little Rock from 2012-2014. Moore received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Philander Smith College, a Master of Science in mathematics at Arkansas State University and a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics education at Florida Institute of Technology.

 

Dr. Sandra MasseyDr. Sandra Massey    2013 – 2020

Dr. Massey became the first female Chancellor in the ASU System in November 2013.  Though Dr. Massey has only been chancellor since 2013, she has championed a complete reorganization of the ASU-Newport team.  This structure put key individuals in strategic positions that aligned the relationship of the three campuses.  Dr. Massey has led an advisory team to develop an open response system known as Shared Leadership.  This provides all staff and faculty with the voice to make a change in the institution.  The culture that she has instated here at ASUN is open and driven by her strong leadership and motivation to live the institutional mission, vision and values on a daily basis.
Dr. Sandra Massey retired December 31, 2020.

 

Dr. Larry WilliamsDr. Larry Williams    2001 – 2013

In November 2001, Dr. Williams became the first chancellor of ASU-Newport.  Dr. Williams retired August 31, 2013.
