As the lead singer of The Platters for most of the last 40 years, Monroe Powell was originally hired by Platters founder and manager Buck Ram in 1970. Since then, he has created a legacy of his own, making appearances with The Platters around the globe. Powell will bring his Salute to the Platters to ASUN Saturday, April 23 with a performance that is sure to send the audience down memory lane with classic hits such as Only You, The Great Pretender, and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. Powell began his career with the Dominoes and then the Ink Spots before becoming the lead singer for The Platters, and since then he has logged over 40 years of recording and touring with these internationally acclaimed groups. Although Powell never claimed to be an original member of The Platters, when he became the lead singer, he became a mainstay in the group and may well be the most well-known member of the Platters throughout the group’s history.
Following the drive for Patron Sponsorships, reserved-seat tickets will go on sale August 6 through the ASUN Business Office and through ASUN’s new automated ticketing website. Clint Black tickets will be priced at $35 each, while tickets for the Arkansas Symphony Brass and Monroe Powell’s Salute to The Platters will be priced at $20 each.
