NEWPORT (Ark.) 8/26/2015 – Arkansas State University-Newport hosted approximately 20 members of the Arkansas Senate and House of Representatives Tuesday as part of the Senate and House Committees on Education’s joint meetings.
Following welcoming remarks from ASUN Chancellor Dr. Sandra Massey, the committees heard a presentation from Massey discussing the various academic programs and curricular offerings at ASU-Newport. Massey briefed the committees on ASUN’s participation in the Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium, as well as ASUN’s High Voltage Lineman Technology, Welding, Surgical Technology and Commercial Driver Training programs. Massey also touched on ASUN’s Prison Education program, the college’s concurrent education partnerships with area high schools and its summer camps.
Following a question and answer session that included very positive feedback from the committee members, the legislators were led on a tour of the campus that included the Surgical Technology and HVLT laboratories.
