On January 13, 2014, Mr. Charley Appleby was named Vice Chancellor, Economic & Workforce Development of Arkansas State University-Newport.
Mr. Appleby previously served as Vice Chancellor of ASU-Newport’s Jonesboro Campus. Prior to his service at ASU-Newport, he was Manager of Client Services for Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions, a program of the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority and an affiliate of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension, serving manufacturing clients statewide. Mr. Appleby also served at ASU-Jonesboro as Director of Professional and Workforce Development with the ASU Delta Center for Economic Development, developing, directing, and delivering training solutions and consultation services in the areas of process improvement, professional development, workforce training, and technology across Northeast Arkansas. Prior to his career in education, he served over thirty years in private industry in various management roles, and as a business process and organizational consultant.
A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Appleby moved to Arkansas in 1978, and has lived in the Jonesboro area for more than twenty-five years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education and Mathematics from Trevecca Nazarene University, and his Master of Business Administration from Arkansas State University.
Mr. Appleby is actively involved in higher education activities, including the Arkansas Association of Two Year Colleges (AATYC), and has successfully completed the AATYC Leadership Program. In addition, he serves on the board of the Workforce Training Consortium, an industry driven consortium of twenty-five industries in Northeast Arkansas, and is active in the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce serving on the Workforce Committee.
He and his wife, Marcia, have one daughter, Lauren Betts, and two grandchildren.
