Community Classes


Arkansas State University-Newport offers a variety of Life-Long Learning Classes.  All of our classes are designed for community members.  All sessions are open to anyone in our community.

Lifelong Learning classes focus on personal enrichment. AARP Driver Safety Classes, Computer Basics Classes for Senior Adults, and Baby Sitting Basics for tweens and teens are representative of the many courses offered to the public at a nominal fee. For more information, call 870-512-7861.

Sessions Offered

AARP Driver Safety Classes
This is a refresher course for drivers ages 50 and up

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Boating Safety Classes
Required course for all boat operators born after January 1986. This class teaches boaters how to be safe on the water.

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Hunter's Education Class
Required for all hunters born after 1969. This class teaches hunters how to be safe while hunting.

Babysitting Basics
Teaches tweens and teens how to be more prepared to babysit children. 

Canning Workshops
The purpose of these workshops is to teach younger generations how to carry on the age old tradition of canning. 

Computer Basics
Teaches seniors how to use a computer, starting with the most basic of tasks. This class is designed around the needs of students who are enrolled. 

CPR for Healthcare Providers
This is a requirement for all people who provide health care, whether they are nurses or firefighters. This class is offered on an as-needed/requested basis. 

Digital Photography Workshop
This class is designed for individuals who wish to improve their ability to take photos using a variety of filters and lighting techniques. 

Identity Theft
The purpose of this workshop was to educate individuals on keeping their personal information safe. 

Lunch and Learn Series
This is a monthly series designed to showcase various professions, from owning a small business to working as a wildlife officer. 

Mental Health First Aid
This class teaches participants how to recognize signs of distress and how to ask appropriate questions to determine what steps need to be taken. This is an 8-hour class. 

Painting Classes
Offered on a seasonal/ by request basis, these fun classes allow participants to create their very own masterpieces. 

Story Times
Offered primarily in the summer months, these sessions introduce preschool age children to a variety of picture books and interactive learning sessions. 

Summer Camps
Offered during the summer months, these classes are designed to teach children about new innovations in technology and techniques in theater. 

In addition to being good for one's body, yoga can also help participants build core strength, improve flexibility, and build confidence.
