Lifelong Learning


Arkansas State University-Newport offers a variety of Lifelong Learning Classes.  All of our classes are designed for community members.  All sessions are open to anyone in our community.

Lifelong Learning classes focus on personal enrichment. AARP Driver Safety Classes, Computer Basics Classes for Senior Adults, and Baby Sitting Basics for tweens and teens are representative of the many courses offered to the public at a nominal fee.

Spring 2018 Classes

Valentine's Culinary Experience: February 6
ASUN's Hospitality Services Culinary Experiences start 2018 with romance!  The experience begins at 6pm in the Fowler Family Hospitality Services Building at ASUN-Jonesboro.  This class is already full, but another culinary experience is scheduled for later this semester!

Fitness Class: February 6 - April 26
The class entitled "Extension Get Fit" will be taught by Cooperative Extension Agent Taylor Hastings. "Extension Get Fit" is a community-based strength training program targeting adult Arkansans. Based on research, the program is designed to increase strength and improve balance and flexibility. The 30 minute class will be held in the ASU-Newport gymnasium in Walton Hall each Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m. The course will run for 12 weeks and the fee for the course is $20.

AARP Safe Driver Course: February 23
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest classroom refresher course directed specifically to the safety needs of motorists aged 50 and older. Drivers with years of experience will be reminded of driving skills and techniques once learned but perhaps forgotten or ignored.  Click here to purchase tickets online.  

"Spring is in the Air" Shattered Glass Art Class: March 6
Take broken glass and turn it into art at Arkansas State University-Newport!  Local artist Julie Reardon is coming to ASUN and will teach you to create unique creations from shattered glass.  The class, “Spring is in the Air,” is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 from 6pm to 7 p.m. in the ASUN Library, and will allow students to exercise their creativity by breathing new life into glass shards. Reardon, who recently taught a shattered glass Christmas tree class at ASUN in December 2017, is the proprietor of Inspiration Point Parties and brings her expertise of teaching this technique to ASUN’s special springtime event. The class is open to both children and adults! Students will have the option of creating a 10x10 canvas for $50 or 10x20 canvas for $60. Contact Jennifer Ballard to register, 870-512-7861, or .
