IGNITE Academy Overview

The ASU-Newport IGNITE Academy provides high school students from area school districts an opportunity to earn workforce-ready credentials in high-demand industry fields while simultaneously earning their high school diploma. The programs are available on both the Newport and Jonesboro campuses. Upon graduation, students earn transferrable credits and certificates of proficiency in various areas of study, preparing them for the workforce or further education.

Program Pathways

• Criminal Justice Pathway - Newport
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Corrections (12 Credits)
  • Program Description: Provides basic knowledge of the criminal justice system for entry-level employment.
  • Career Opportunities: Corrections officers and jailers.

• Health Professions Pathway - Newport & Jonesboro
  • Certificates of Proficiency:
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (7 credits)
    • Phlebotomy (8 credits)
    • Prerequisites: Practical Nursing (13 credits)
  • Program Description: Prepares students for careers as Certified Nursing Assistants and/or Phlebotomy Technicians.
  • Career Opportunities: Acute care, long-term care, and community service settings.

• Truck Service & Maintenance Pathway - Newport
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Truck Service and Maintenance (8 credits)
  • Program Description: Prepares students for entry-level positions in the truck/trailer service and maintenance industry.

• Welding Pathway - Newport & Jonesboro
  • Certificate of Proficiency:
    • Newport Campus: Manufacturing Welding (6 credits)
    • Jonesboro Campus: Manufacturing Welding (6 credits)
  • Program Description: Prepares students for entry-level wire welding in manufacturing.
  • Career Opportunities: Manufacturing welder, production welder, fabrication welder, and maintenance welder.

    • CNC Operator (15 credits)
    • Technical Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing (30 credits)
  • Program Description: Prepares students to enter the workforce as CNC Machine Operators.
