Academic Support Center (ASC)
The Academic Support Center is committed to providing you with services and resources to successfully complete certificates, and courses, achieve personal goals, or prepare for GED certifications to maximize your full academic potential. Academic Support is student-centered, inclusive, accessible, and best of all - free of charge!
ASU-Newport promises you a college experience tailored to fit your needs. The goal is to help you gain the practical skills and valuable knowledge to succeed wherever you go in the academic, business, or agricultural field.
Library staff are included in the Academic Support Center. We are trained to respond to your academic requirements. We care about you as a student and want to make your experience at ASU-Newport one that is memorable and enjoyable. You can get help and guidance with daily assignments, test preparation and projects such as research papers, class projects, resumes, and more.
Classroom and Program Support
We collaborate with many faculty and staff, as well as other campus partners, to provide a range of services, programs, and resources to expand your learning experience. Through individualized and group instruction you can:
- Learn test taking and study skills with help registering for required tests
- Enhance reading and critical thinking skills
- Work on basic computer skills by using the computers provided in the ASC room
- Get help with employability skills including resume writing and interview techniques
- Develop strategies that work with your learning style
- Meet the Library Staff and learn about the ASUN Library System services
For future students:
- Learn about GED classes to gain your high school diploma
- Get help registering for the Accuplacer test including information about practice tests
- Access the ASUN Library System to improve reading and writing skills

In-Person Tutoring
Individual one-on-one tutoring is available. Faculty hours are posted including email addresses, in order to contact a faculty member to set tutoring appointments and establish an individual learning plan. Meeting with tutors is an important part of student success and our faculty and staff are here to make sure that students have what they need to succeed in their classes.
Brainfuse Online Tutoring is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Staff will walk you through the Brainfuse website allowing you to see firsthand how the Live Tutoring sessions and Writing Help allow you to work with a live tutor or submit a paper for review. If you prefer Study Aids for test review or to help with class homework, these are available in all subjects. Advising
When you register for classes at ASUN, you will be assigned an Advisor. Advisors help you with academic issues such as completing your degree plan with appropriate classes for your degree. Guiding your class choices to obtain your degree in a timely manner and helping with class registration. The advisor will often be the person best qualified to help you work out the specific procedures in your academic pursuits and frequently is the most knowledgeable about which classes will be the best choices in your field to graduate. Advisors are available for questions or special help by email anytime.

Usage Policy
- Computers are for educational use only. ASUN students have priority over other users.
- Internet access is limited to one hour if other students are waiting to use the computer.
- Ask if you need assistance with anything; we are here to help if we can.
- Conserve paper; if you need help with printing, our staff will assist.
- Downloading of files is permitted only for information for class use.
- Social networking and games are not allowed unless required for class.
- Anyone found not adhering to the above policies may be subject to loss of lab privileges.
